Nigeria to the Globe · Solo Circumnavigation
In May 2026 a Nigerian man climbs into a 430bhp+ BMW in Abeokuta and drives. Not to the next town. Not to the next country. To the world.
Lagos to the World is a solo overland circumnavigation of the globe — the first ever departing Nigeria, in a Nigerian-plated vehicle, with no co-driver and no support team. Three legs. Six continents. One rebuilt car.
This is not about the road. The road is just where it happens.
Running alongside every kilometre is a men's health and cancer awareness mission — bringing free prostate cancer screenings and health activations to roadside communities across the West African corridor and beyond. Communities that formal health campaigns never reach. Men who have never been screened. Lives that can still be saved.
This mission is personal. I lost my mother, Professor Helen Nwagwu, and my sister, Mrs. Onyema Fern Eseka, to cancer. Every kilometre of this expedition is driven in their memory and in service of the men who still have time.
The expedition departs from the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta — with the personal blessing and address of former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, who will conduct a guided tour of the Presidential Library for expedition guests before flagging off the journey.
Alongside the health mission, the expedition hosts enthusiast meet-ups and technical sessions — featuring our sponsors — in concert with car clubs in every country visited, bringing the Lagos to the World story to automotive communities across six continents.
The road begins in May 2026. It ends when the world has been crossed.
Born in Stockholm in 1965. Lived on three continents. Managing Director of Carbon Deficits Ltd and CD Africa Parts. Founding member of the BMW Club Nigeria. Self-taught BMW engineer.
Erik has driven the West African corridor for over thirty years — always in a BMW. He is not preparing this car for the expedition. It is already proven. Lagos to Owerri, completed over ten times without incident. Lagos to Accra, driven multiple times. The car works because Erik works — annual engine-out services, genuine BMW components, zero tolerance for compromise.
Lagos to the World is not just a drive — it is a personal mission. After losing both his mother, Professor Helen Nwagwu, and younger sister, Mrs. Onyema Eseka to cancer, Erik committed to using his lifelong passion for driving to raise awareness for men's health and cancer while showcasing the beauty and accessibility of African/global travel. The men's cancer and health awareness programme he carries across the West African corridor is key to ensuring that lives are saved by early detection and healthy lifestyles.
"I swallow the midnight and spit it out like an apple seed. This expedition has been building for thirty years. May 2026 is simply when the road begins."
